As a child, I already knew: one day I would write a book. Perhaps several. A crime novel, a thriller, or a collection of poetry. And I did write — I still do. There is no shortage of inspiration: I drank tea with a Jordanian general during a failed attempt to cross a border, spoke with army officers, asked my grandmother about her school days in secret classes under the communist regime. I meet people whose lives are like something out of a film, my imagination works overtime, and I am surrounded by kind, supportive people. And yet my book is not there (yet). Countless opening sentences, blurbs and chapters live on USB sticks and memory cards. I divide the world into two groups: people who wrote a book, and people who didn't. I belong to the latter category. My guests in this podcast belong to the former. They wrote a book — or several. And I travelled through their words, lived in their world for a while, looked at life through their pen. In Kom Maar Dichter, I talk to authors about their writing process, what it taught them, and what they hope their readers will take away from it. We record at Robur op Den Eik, a place where you can get closer: to yourself, to nature, to life. I ask them all my questions and listen with rapt attention. Will you listen too? Come closer ("kom maar dichter").
